Anyone who wants to paint a playground, parking lot, or other area wants it to look good and stay nice for a long time. We often receive questions about this: How much paint do you need? Why does it wear out faster than expected? Is special road paint really better than regular paint from the store?
The short answer is: yes. But besides the paint itself, preparation, weather conditions and the application method play a significant role as well. With the right paint and a few important points of attention, you can achieve a truly beautiful and sustainable result.

Why choose road paint?
Our road paint is of the latest generation: water-based and at the same time exceptionally wear-resistant. In a traffic environment, it is certified for up to 2 million wheel passes. This is obviously not applicable to a playground, but it clearly demonstrates how strong and durable this paint is.
Compared to older solvent-based paints, as well as commercially available paint, this road paint scores better on wear resistance. And often the price per liter tuns out to be even more favorable.

A good foundation is the basis
The paint is suitable for concrete pavers, concrete tiles, and asphalt. These are also the surfaces on which it is most often used in a school environment. It adheres less well to smooth, polished concrete, so it is not suitable for that.
Good preparation is crucial. The surface must be clean, free of dirt and dry. Clean the surface with a high-pressure cleaner: sand, dust, gras, moss or other loose remains must be completely removed. it is best to do this the day before painting so that the surface has sufficient time to dry.
Old drawings can be painted over, but loose pieces of paint should be removed first. New asphalt or concrete surfaces should not be painted immediately, but must first cure for a sufficient amount of time.
Working thinly usually gives the best results.
The paint is ready to use. It is important to mix well before use, but no solvent should be added. If necessary, you can lightly dilute with water, but no more than 5%.
For application, it is best to use a short-haired roller or a paint brush. Two thinner coats generally give a nicer and more durable result than one thick coat.
The consumption is on average between 6 and 12 m² per 5 kg, but it strongly depends on the surface and the application method. For example, you will need more paint on pavers with joints than on a solid asphalt surface.

Under the right conditions.
The weather conditions also determine whether the result remains good. The paint must be able to dry, but not too quickly. Painting at excessively high temperatures or in direct sunlight is not a good idea, both for the painter(s) and for the result.
Therefore, it is best to paint in dry, favorable conditions, on a dry surface and without excessive heat. High humidity is also not recommended, so be sure to check your weather app. Practically, you usually have the best chance of good conditions between April and October.
Those who ignore these recommendations run a higher risk of blistering, fading, or peeling paint. This can still occur after some time.
Not only for lines, but also for creative play ideas.
With road paint, you can easily and budget-friendly upgrade the playground. Think of hopscotch paths, twister circles, a movement course, or playful drawings like a water feature under a boat or raft. This way, you create not only a practical space but also a place that invites play and movement.
The paint is available in white, yellow, red, and blue. Blue is also available in a larger package. For other colours, you can mix the paint yourself. It’s best to add a little of the darkest colour to the lighter one until you reach the desired shade.
For those who want to paint fun shapes or repeat figures, there are stencils that are a handy aid. They make it easier to work playfully and also provide support for people without much painting experience.
Always read the manual
Anyone who wants to enjoy a painted playground or area for a long time should not only look at the colour or design but also at the technical side. Good preparation, the right conditions, and careful application ultimately make the difference.
If you want to be sure you handle everything correctly, be sure to read the manual. All application conditions and practical guidelines are clearly listed in it.
