In many kindergartens, the same question arises: how do you ensure a safe play environment without making a fence feel cold or restrictive? AtKindergarten Sint Ursulain Wilrijk, they sought a solution that combines safety with openness and playfulness. An approach that provides protection while also connecting with the world of young children.

After consultation, a combination ofstandard, extremely strong double wire panels1 meter high (8/6/8 mm), placed on sturdy posts with a diameter of 60 mm was chosen. This type of steel mesh panel has been used in school environments for years and remains one of themost reliable solutionswhen a durable and safe enclosure is needed.

To make this functional base appear less harsh, the wire panels were supplemented withcustom-made play and experience panels. These panels are made from solid, UV-resistant PE and are completely maintenance-free. By integrating them into the fencing, additional experience is created without compromising safety or visibility.

The play and experience panels are designed according to the principles of the European standardEN 1176. Formally, they do not fall under the regulation for play equipment, but they have been developed with the same attention to safety, durability, and use in a school context.

The result is a barrier that does what it is supposed to do:safe, sturdy, and low-maintenance, but at the same timewarm and child-friendly. No feeling of being enclosed, but a thoughtful solution that fits within a preschool and grows with the daily use of the play environment.
